Americans React to the 2026 Fifa World Cup Final Being Held in East Rutherford, New Jersey
It's official! The 2026 Fifa World Cup is coming to North America, with the final to be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey. And with the announcement that Fifa is swapping out its Qatar oil prince money for jersey mobster money, people all over the tri-state area are waiting with bated breath to see what the European soccer elite think of America's armpit.
"Of all the stadiums in this country, you choose this one," @DaniloStanojev9 tweeted.
MetLife Stadium, home of the Jets and the New York Giants, is already regarded as one of the poorer stadiums in the NFL, let alone the rest of the world. And while thanks to Fifa's sponsorship rules its "MetLife" name will be dropped in favor of "New York New Jersey Stadium," anyone who's ever been stuck on George Washington Bridge in bumper-to-bumper traffic knows all too well which side of the Hudson it represents. This is New Jersey's World Cup.
MetLife has come under heavy fire in American football for its allegedly injury-causing astroturf, which most famously claimed the Achilles tendon of Jets Quarterback Aaron Rogers. And although memes of Mbappe's ACL came pouring in, MetLife is resurfacing their field with natural grass.
That natural grass, however, might be the only of its kind any Europeans see on this trip. Let's see how crossing the I-95 by foot compares to crossing the English Channel.
